Maryland Endoscopy Center has multiple GI endoscopy procedure rooms with state-of-the art safety and diagnostic equipment, in addition to recovery bays for added privacy and convenient parking. We are confident that patients will find Maryland Endoscopy Center to be a very pleasant, safe and convenient alternative to hospital-based endoscopy.
The idea for formulating a free-standing endoscopy center originated as a result of information obtained through outside surveys indicating a need for such centers. Rising rates for in-hospital endoscopy and insurance company restrictions spurred local doctors’ interest in creating a geographically convenient outpatient center that would provide the highest quality of care as efficiently as possible. With the information gathered, Dr. Michael Cox was instrumental in organizing a group of doctors to participate in forming a center dedicated to gastrointestinal procedures that was more cost efficient than a hospital.
Construction for the Maryland Endoscopy Center began in August 1994, with the center opening for business in November of the same year. Participating physicians are affiliated with eight of Baltimore’s preeminent medical institutions, including: Mercy Medical Center, Good Samaritan Hospital, Union Memorial Hospital, Franklin Square Hospital, St. Joseph Medical Center, Sinai Hospital, Greater Baltimore Medical Center and Northwest Hospital Center. The nursing staff also contributes a combined total of more than 200 years of experience.
